How to Apply for an Elective at Cambridge

When your application has been processed, and a place provisionally offered, you will be asked to pay the £200 administration fee. Your place will be confirmed when the administration fee has been received, details of how to pay will be included in the offer letter.

Health Screening and Immunisation record information to be submitted with your application to allow you to take part in Exposure Prone Procedures:
- Laboratory blood test results showing evidence of adequate Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C immunity and/or non-infectivity i.e. a Hepatitis B antibody titre level (anti-Hbs) of >100miu/ml is required. This shows that you have protection against the disease.
- Evidence within the last six months, of surface antigen (HBs) negativity or, if HBs positive, evidence of e-antigen (HBe) negativity, this must show that you are not carrying the disease and should show a negative result. The certificate should show the name of the issuing institution it and the position of the signatory.
- You will also need to be screened for HIV.
- Complete the Immunisation Record and Health Questionnaire which is attached to the application form. The Immunisation Record should be signed by a nurse or doctor and be stamped with the Seal of the institution and enclosed with your application.
- The Immunisation Record should show a positive history of chickenpox or having had two vaccinations. Proof of having had two measles vaccinations or equivalent MMR vaccinations and laboratory blood test results for rubella antibodies are necessary.
Students visiting from countries outside the EU: Points Based Immigration (PBI) - Tier 4
If you require a visa to enter the UK, you may be required to apply under the Tier 4 Points Based Immigration, even if this does not normally apply when youvisit the UK. Apply as a ‘medical elective’ not as a student visitor, see below links for details and advice:

It is your responsibility to make sure that you meet the requirements for entry into the UK. Including, for students from non-majority English speaking countries all language requirements.
Applicants need to provide English Language test certificates (not more than two years old at the time of application) from IELTS, TOEFL or confirmation from the University Language Centre (http://www.langcen.cam.ac.uk/contact.html). The University Language Centre’s assessment costs £40 per student. The student must pay this fee in advance of the assessment. On receipt of the funds, the Language Centre will contact the student. On completion of the assessment, the Language Centre will confirm whether the student meets the minimum UKBA requirements, and advice on any support required to raise a student to the required level.
