As part of The Department of Public Health and Primary Care within the Clinical School of Medicine, University of Cambridge, the GPPCRU is keen to recruit postgraduate research students from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines. We value the contribution PhD students' research plays in the life and culture of the Unit, and see it as a vital way in which research at the Unit will develop.
Normally, students complete a training year before conducting their own research, which may be via a specific MPhil/MSc qualification. Because we are committed to using a wide range of methodologies and multidisciplinary approaches, you may be jointly supervised with a member of another academic department, for example within the social sciences.
Please do not hesitate to contact the Unit with initial enquiries of interest. We would encourage anyone interested to contact us at an early stage, so that we can help refine your research area, assist with drafts of your proposal and provide information on possible sources of funding.
Admission is via a research proposal, curriculum vitae, academic references and usually interview. You are normally expected to satisfy the following baseline criteria:
- at least a 2i honours degree from a UK university or an equivalent standard from an overseas university
- a fluent command of the English Language
- completion of any current training or education course
- release from your current institution for the duration of your study
