Dr Laurence Atkinson - Assistant Director of General Practice Studies

MRCP MRCGP

Laurence qualified from Newcastle 1983 and initially followed a hospital medicine career, MRCP 1986. Registrar at Charing Cross interest Diabetes & Endocrinology.

He saw the light and changed to General Practice, doing his GP training in Surrey (MRCGP 1989) and moving to Kings Lynn for a partnership in 1989 and has been here ever since! He has been involved in undergraduate teaching ever since junior hospital doctor jobs and have taught Cambridge final year students for 15 yrs (He thinks!). He has been a GP tutor and honorary Senior lecturer for UEA since the inception of undergraduate course 6 yrs ago. He was also clinical governance lead for West Norfolk PCT.

Laurence's clinical interests are prevention cardiovascular disease and drug dependency (amongst others), but still dabbles in diabetes and endocrinology. He is currently not doing any research!

He is married to Liz (GP), with 2 children. The eldest is a 3rd year medical student at Sheffield, the youngest is hoping to study Sciences at Cambridge. He also has a real passion for skiing!
