EPOCH: experiences of older people in care homes

Title: The experiences and expectations of older people in care homes, their carers and professionals of end of life care and symptom relief needs: a prospective study
Principal research question: To understand how living in a care home influences older peoples’ views, experiences and expectations of end of life care and symptom relief.
Methodology description: Seven care homes in Hertfordshire, Essex and Cambridgeshire. Review of care home residents care notes over a 12 month period. Three in depth interviews of a subsample of care home residents. Semi structured interviews of care home staff and NHS staff. Final focus groups with residents.
Outcome measure description: A description of older people’s health, function, views, experiences and expectations, about living and dying in a care home.
