Patient and Public Involvement (PPI)

Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) is key to the design and conduct of research within the Primary Care Unit. We do not have our own panel of PPI members for our research work, but lay members contribute and work within all of our research programmes. We therefore endeavour to work with other local agencies that can provide the necessary support and training for PPI members. They also provide advice to researchers who wish to learn more about engaging with PPI within their research.

INsPIRE (patIeNt & Public Involvement in Research – Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire)

INsPIRE is a new patient and public involvement (PPI) in health and social care research group for Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. They have been active since 2012 and welcome the opportunity for members of their group to become involved in research.

All researchers wishing to make requests for involvement from INsPIRE members are asked to write a brief description of what their study entails, and what is required from the INsPIRE members (commenting on grants, meetings, participation in projects, etc.) including time commitments and remuneration arrangements (if any). The contact details of a member of the research team should be included so that members can directly contact the team. This only needs to be brief initially (1 or 2 sides of A4 max), and should be sent to Paula Waddingham at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . She will circulate the information to the INsPIRE group, and any interested user will contact the study team. At this point more specific details about the study could be sent.
