| Title: | The Melanoma Interview Study |
| Principal research question: | Why do some patients present with thicker melanomas? A qualitative exploration of patients’ symptom detection, helpseeking decisions and experiences of the pathways to diagnosis |
| Background: | ( Main website: Please click here ) |
| Methodology description: | We aim to investigate the processes of symptom detection, help-seeking decisions, and experiences of pathways to diagnosis of patients presenting in the UK with thicker primary melanoma (T3 and T4) by comparison with those with thinner melanomas (T1). |
| Sample group description: | All patients aged 18 and over and diagnosed with primary melanoma will be eligible for potential inclusion in the study unless their diagnosing clinician indicates they are not suitable (serious co-morbidity, mental health problems, unable to communicate in English). Patients will be recruited purposively in order to sample as wide a range of the population as possible (gender, age, education level and ethnicity). They will be approached soon after being informed of their diagnosis and prior to start of treatment: working with local management protocols we will endeavour to recruit and interview patients within 2-4 weeks of diagnosis where possible. |
