Project description

Title:

Does a ‘polypill’ have a role in secondary prevention of stroke in older people?

Research Aim:

To assess whether a polypill strategy has a role for secondary prevention of vascular events in older people who have had a stroke or TIA in a primary care setting.

In phase one, we will undertake epidemiological and qualitative work and a pilot trial. We will use the results from these to inform phase two, a randomised controlled trial and cost effectiveness analysis to compare the effect of a polypill approach with current standard practice (i.e. treating BP and cholesterol according to current guidelines) in preventing vascular events.

Start & End Date:

1st April 2012 to the 31st March 2017
