The Department of Radiology at the University of Cambridge offers project based MPhils and PhDs. Applicants should be aware that these do not constitute specialist training in Radiology. Previous graduates have included a wide range of disciplines, including medicine, engineering, physics, mathematics & computing.
The majority of graduates start in the Autumn although in theory they may start at the beginning of any term. It is a good idea to approach the department ideally 12 months and at least 9 months prior to your planned start date in order to allow good time to identify a suitable project, address any funding issues and any additional regulatory requirements. In particular for overseas students it is important to start early as it may be necessary to obtain additional approvals in order to study in the United Kingdom. These usually take several months to organise.
Application

Observing Radiologists
Radiologists who would like the possibility of getting an overview of our department ( 1 - 5 days) are welcome to contact us, particularly if they can enhance our education - ie give a lecture or trainee tutorials.
We receive many requests by self funding Radiologists for longer periods ( 1-6 months) of study or research in our department. Applications are reviewed regularly by the Training and Education Committee. Such visits must be arranged well in advance and applications should include a clearly written proposal (outlining the aims of the visit)along with a current curriculum vitae and letter of recommendation - please complete the preliminary form as requested above.
Radiology Trainee Posts
Specialist Registrars and Academic Clinical Fellows
2-4 Registrars are appointed each Autumn as part of our training program for FRCR and the CCST. The posts are competitively sought after and advertised around Christmas each year in the BMJ. Interviews follow in the early New Year and are part of the national scheme. Informal discussion about radiological training is advised prior to application. There is also an active Academic training programme with Academic Clinical Fellows (who are allowed up to 20% of their training time in research or education).
Please contact the following for advice on the training posts:
Dr Pat Set p.set@addenbrookes.nhs.uk
Dr Tarik Massoud tfm23@radiol.cam.ac.uk

Medical Student Information
We frequently have Medical students undertaking elective periods in the Radiology Department, often related to a particular interest or career aspiration.
Owing to the training demands on the department and other educational commitments these need to be organised and agreed well in advance.
All prospective Elective students MUST initially
apply for an elective visit
directly to the Clinical School
Other Radiology Opportunities -
