How we use your personal information (for members of the public who are teachers, facilitators, or actors/simulated patients)
This page provides information about the use of your personal data if you are involved in any way in the teaching or assessment of students at the Clinical School, but do not hold a University of Cambridge contract of employment (including a temporary workers’ contract). This includes teachers, examiners, and facilitators, but also actors (simulated patients). The information on this page applies both to the organisation of teaching, and also to the process of recognising that teaching through the grant of title, or other similar mechanisms.
The information on this page does not relate to patient volunteers – if you are a patient volunteer taking part in teaching or the assessment of undergraduate medical students, please see the privacy statement on this page.
The Clinical School uses your personal information for the purposes of organising teaching or assessment for its students, and for the purposes of recognising teachers, either through a grant of title, or by other appropriate means. In order to fulfil these purposes, we share your information with administrative and academic/clinical colleagues who are also involved in the organisation and/or delivery of teaching or assessment for the Clinical School. Some of these individuals are University staff members, but others may be employed by external organisations, such as the NHS. We will also share your information, upon request, with the GMC, which requires medical schools to maintain records of trainers/teachers who are involved in undergraduate medical education.
We use your personal information in order to pursue our public interest task in delivering a high quality of education and training for our students. We will retain your information for the duration of your period as teacher/facilitator for the Clinical School, and for a six year period thereafter. If you apply unsuccessfully for a grant of title or other teaching recognition, we will retain your application for 15 months. We will ask for your consent if we wish to retain your details for a longer period of time, and will explain the basis of that request.
For more information about how we handle your personal information, and your rights under data protection legislation, please see https://www.information-compliance.admin.cam.ac.uk/data-protection/general-data.
