How we use your personal information (for members of the public attending courses or events, and for students attending or applying to the Cambridge Elective scheme)
This page provides information about the use of your personal data if you do not hold a University of Cambridge contract of employment (including a temporary workers’ contract) and you apply for and/or attend a professional development course or event organised by the Clinical School. For example, this includes ‘one-off’ events such as an Away Day, as well as courses such as the Integrated Foundations of Medical Education (IFME). This page also applies to you if you are a medical student from another institution and are either already in Cambridge on a medical elective, or are applying for a place on the elective scheme.
The Clinical School uses your personal information for the purposes of facilitating your participation and engagement with professional development courses or events organised by us, and/or for the purposes of administering your application for or participation in a Cambridge clinical elective. In order to do this, we share your information with administrative and academic/clinical colleagues who are also involved in the organisation and/or delivery of these courses, events, or elective places. Some of these individuals are University staff members, but others may be employed by external organisations, such as the NHS.
We consider the processing of your personal information for these purposes to be necessary for the performance of our contractual obligations to you, as a user of the service we provide in running such courses/events/electives (for example, to manage your experience while undertaking a course). We will retain your information for six years following completion of the course or event that you attend. If you apply unsuccessfully for a course or event, we will retain your application for up to twelve months. We will ask for your consent if we wish to retain your details for a longer period of time, and will explain the basis of that request.
For more information about how we handle your personal information, and your rights under data protection legislation, please see https://www.information-compliance.admin.cam.ac.uk/data-protection/general-data.
