BSU Seminar by David Dreifuss, Imperial College on "Statistical Methods for Wastewater-Based Epidemiology"
Speaker: David Dreifuss, Imperial College
Title: "Statistical Methods for Wastewater-Based Epidemiology"
Abstract: Wastewater-based epidemiology, although dating back almost a century, has undergone a renaissance since the last pandemic. By providing an aggregated signal of infections, it offers strong operational advantages over individual testing for tracking pathogens at the population level, but also introduces distinct analytical challenges.
In this talk, I will explore some of these challenges from a statistical perspective, using examples from genomic variant surveillance, the detection of emerging pathogens, and real-world monitoring programs. I will discuss methods developed to address them and highlight open problems and opportunities for future methodological research.
This will be a free hybrid seminar. To register to attend remotely, please click here: https://cam-ac-uk.zoom.us/meeting/register/4GQtd6gPSxO1DDvgxoZdiA
