About Professor Franklin Aigbirhio
I entered the research field of radiochemistry and biomedical imaging on joining the MRC Cyclotron Unit, Imperial College, London. Later joined the Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre, University of Cambridge as a founding staff member, helping to establish its PET radiochemistry and imaging programmes.
Presently I am professor and Director of the Molecular Imaging Chemistry Laboratory, within the Dept of Clinical Neurosciences. In addition, a Senior Research Fellow at Magdalene College Cambridge, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Fellow and council member of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
Project/study information
The development and application of positron emission tomography (PET) imaging technology. Objectives are to develop new PET imaging agents that are specific to human biomarkers associated with different disorders then apply them to investigate disease mechanisms, improve their early detection and diagnosis and develop new treatments.
