The public health community, with the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Patrick Maxwell, Regius Professor of Physic and Professor Carol Brayne, Director of the Cambridge Institute of Public Health, welcomed Dr Yusuf at the Inaugural annual Public Health Lecture, which he delivered on 3rd November 2014.
Dr Salim Yusuf is Professor of Medicine, and Executive Director of the Population Health Research Institute, McMaster University and Vice President for Research, Hamilton Health Sciences. He is an internationally renowned cardiologist and epidemiologist, whose work over 35 years has substantially influenced prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. The leading North American clinical trialist in this field, his epidemiologic work in more than 60 countries shows the majority of risks of both cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease are attributable to the same few risk factors. His large-scale studies involving several hundreds of thousands of individuals in dozens of countries have changed the way some of the world’s most deadly health conditions are prevented, treated and managed.
