About Dr Loredana Marcovecchio
I am a Clinical Scientist and Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Department of Paediatrics, University of Cambridge, and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Project/study information
My clinical and research focus is on childhood-onset type 1 diabetes (T1D). Since 2005, I have been actively involved in designing and conducting observational and clinical trials aimed at the early detection and prevention of vascular complications in children and adolescents with T1D.
More recently, my work has expanded to include the prevention and treatment of T1D, with a key role in coordinating immunotherapy trials in children and adolescents with a recent diagnosis of clinical T1D, as well as observational studies in individuals at risk of developing the disease.
I am an active investigator in two major European T1D consortia - INNODIA and GPPAD - which are conducting prevention and treatment studies aimed at halting disease progression.
My research has led to numerous scientific publications and has contributed to both national and international clinical guidelines on T1D. Since 2020, I have been a member of the Guidelines Editorial Committee of the International Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD).
