About Professor Mark Gurnell
I am a clinical academic, working in the Cambridge Clinical School and at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. My current roles include:
- Professor of Clinical Endocrinology and Principal Investigator at the Institute of Metabolic Science-Metabolic Research Laboratories
- Head of Section (Specialty Medicine and Research Training) in the Department of Medicine
- Clinical SubDean and Head of Assessment in the School of Clinical Medicine
- Clinical Lead for Endocrine Services at Cambridge University Hospitals
Project/study information
My research is focussed on the development of novel approaches to investigation and management of adrenal, pituitary and thyroid disorders, which can be rapidly translated into clinical practice. Two recent programmes have yielded molecular imaging techniques that are now available for NHS patients.
Recruitment of postgraduate students and research staff
Training graduate students for a scientific career is a priority at the IMS-MRL. We have a mixture of both basic science students and clinical trainees and aim to provide everyone with a supportive, stimulating research and learning environment. We offer Funded PhD programmes, a PhD in Clinical Biochemistry and a full-time taught MPhil in Obesity, Endocrinology & Metabolism.
