In December 2015, for the first time ever, the Women’s Varsity match was played at Twickenham, resulting in a magnificent 52 – 0 trouncing of Oxford by Cambridge! Six of our medical students were in the squad, including second-year Graduate Course student Alice Middleton (full-back), who scored 27 points comprising a hat trick and six conversions and was awarded Player of the Match.
Alice commented that for many of the players, this historic victory will stand as the highlight of their rugby careers and for her, the highlight of her life so far!
The other medical students in the squad were Laura Bateman (6th year), Jess Charlton and Chloe Withers (4th year), Caitlín Milliken (3rd year) and Laura Nunez-Mulder (2nd year). Huge congratulations to all of them, not just on their decisive victory, but for showing that with determination (and great time-management skills!) you can be a successful medical student and keep up your outside interests, whatever they may be.
