Congratulations to Tamsin Ford who will become the new Head of Department for Psychiatry, from 1 April 2021. Tamsin has been Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Cambridge since October 2019 and before that was at Exeter Medical School. Her research focuses on the interface between mental health and education, childhood psychiatric epidemiology and the effectiveness of clinical services and interventions.
Tamsin has recently been selected as one of 15 role models of women in academic medicine by the British Medical Association (BMA). Tamsin gave some great insights into the experiences, barriers and ways forward for women in academic medicine, she said “Try to become aware of the internal voice that undermines your confidence in yourself and test that against the evidence. Encourage yourself to take opportunities that present themselves to you.”
