The titles of Affiliated Assistant Professor, Affiliated Associate Professor, and Affiliated Professor, are awarded via one of three routes, namely ‘Predominantly teaching’, ‘Predominantly research’, or ‘Impact’. The eligibility criteria for the ‘Predominantly research’ route is detailed below.
Affiliated Assistant Professor – Predominantly Research
Applications for the award of title of Affiliated Assistant Professor through the ‘Predominantly research’ route, will be considered with regard to the following criterion:
Consistently conducts rigorous research addressing significant questions, contributing new ideas and advancing the boundaries of the field, whilst ensuring the highest standards of research integrity are promoted and maintained.
With reference to this criterion, individuals will be expected to be making a sizeable contribution to research within the School. This contribution will be assessed by reference to the outputs from the individual’s research programme, possibly integrated with University academics and senior researchers (PRA/DoR) in established collaborations. In addition, strategic leadership relevant to a speciality area or which facilitates University-NHS Trust research collaboration is eligible for consideration.
Some possible indicators of excellence for this criterion are given below, but please note these are just examples, and individuals should reference the criterion and provide their own evidence against it, in their applications. It is recognised that applicants for affiliated titles are likely to be substantively employed outside the Higher Education sector, and both the volume and the nature of their contributions, and the evidence for those contributions, will be considered accordingly.
Example indicators of excellence:
- A portfolio of high quality research outputs that are nationally recognised as excellent
- Research outputs may include academic publications, and/or innovation in clinical practice, and/or technical innovation/analytics
- Evidence of collaborative work with University Principal Investigators
