The Clinical School is pleased to announce several successes in recent applications for Wellcome Trust funding.
Professor Gillian Griffiths and Professor Margaret ‘Scottie’ Robinson, both based in CIMR, have had their Principal Research Fellowships renewed.
Dr James Rowe (Clinical Neurosciences) has had his Senior Research Fellowship renewed.
Finally, Professor Ed Bullmore and his team have just received notification that they have been successful in their application for a Wellcome Trust Strategic Award for Neuroimmunology of Mood Disorders and Alzheimers Disease. This grant will support an academic/industrial consortium – including Janssen and Lundbeck as well as 7 UK academic centres – to test the opportunity to repurpose new anti-inflammatory drugs for treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and depression that does not respond to conventional anti-depressants. The Wellcome Trust award will be approximately £5m over 5 years.
