Department of Haematology
We are a world leading centre for a wide spectrum of haematology research and postgraduate education.
We play a nationally important role in clinical and academic training. We:
- train medical students in haematology
- provide research training for junior doctors,
- offer clinical academic training
We work in partnership with Cambridge University Hospitals to provide the haematology service at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Our clinically trained staff make a vital contribution to patient care as honorary consultants and registrars.
We set up of the Cambridge Cellular Therapy Laboratory to provide stem cells products for the CUH transplant programme and one of the UK’s first CAR T-cell therapy centres.
Our public and patients engagement happens through a wide variety of events and the activities of the Blood Cancers Patient and Public Involvement Group.
We have 16 independent research groups and over 80 postdoctoral researchers. Our groups make significant contributions to the study of haematology, authoring approximately 100 publications per year, and producing discoveries particularly in these areas:
- Malignant haematopoiesis, leukaemia and lymphoma
- Normal haematopoiesis
- Transfusion medicine
- Structural biology
