Adel Helmy

I am an Associate Professor in the Division of Neurosurgery and Consultant Neurosurgeon. My clinical and academic training has been in Cambridge, with one year spent abroad in Brisbane, Australia as a Skull base Fellow. My academic interest is in neuroinflammation in brain injury, particularly in Traumatic Brain Injury. I also conduct research in my areas of clinical interest: neurovascular and meningioma neurosurgery.

Project/study information 

1. Tissue Sampling in Acute Brain Injury (MRC Grant MR/X021882/1) 
   We have developed a method for sampling of fresh brain tissue at the time of neurosurgery for single cell mRNA sequencing.
2. TBI-REPORTER (MRC Grant MR/Y008502/1) 
   I am closely involved with the Experimental Medicine Network within TBI REPORTER and I am the Cambridge PI for the 3P study. (https://tbi-reporter.uk)
3. STOP Em Study (NIHR129748) 
   We are a recruiting site within this national multicentre trial, and are leading the inflammatory biomarkers sub-study within the trial. (https://www.stopem-trial.org.uk)
4. Metabolism and Multi-modality Monitoring in Acute Brain Injury 
   Our group has an interest in microdialysis monitoring and metabolic failure following brain injury.
5. Clinical Pathways in mild Traumatic Brain Injury
