MRC Doctoral Training Programme iCASE PhD Studentships
We are offering a number of fully funded opportunities to combine academic research and training with industrial experience across the projects listed below.
Students studying under the MRC iCASE programme will spend at least 3 months working with the industrial partner, experiencing two distinct research cultures and enabling better understanding and experience of future career opportunities within industry as well as in the University context.
Studentships fall under one of the following research themes.
- Data Science for Health
- Infections and Immunity
- Molecular and Cellular Medicine
- Neurosciences and Mental Health
Projects are listed by research theme below.
To apply for the projects listed and the MRC iCASE funding, contact the supervisor in the first instance and then put in an application for the PhD course in the relevant department.
Eligibility
Potential applicants for the MRC iCASE must apply for a place on the PhD course of the Department offering the specific project selected (from the projects available listed below). Please note the MRC iCASE does not provide studentships for courses other than the specific PhDs projects listed. Please refer to the University information on funding for information of studentships for other courses and Schools.
Before applying
Before you apply, please contact the supervisor in the Department of the MRC iCASE project listed below, where you are interested in studying. Details of their contact information is given below. The supervisor will be able to give you full information on projects within their Department and how to make an application, including what information they require and any deadlines.
Finding a PhD supervisor
Please see the list of projects below and contact the relevant supervisor for the project in the Department where you wish to study.
Apply
You should apply directly to the Department where you wish to undertake your PhD. Please contact the supervisor for the relevant information regarding how to apply as well as what specific information they require in an application and what deadlines are applicable. When applying please mention that you are interested in the specific MRC iCASE project and funding.
Departments review all applications and decide which to nominate for consideration for MRC iCASE funding in February. If you are nominated and shortlisted by the MRC iCASE programme committee you will be called to a further funding interview in late February/early March. Offers of MRC iCASE funding are communicated to applicants after the second interview, usually in early March. All applications to Departments should be made via the online prospectus.
Funding
These are fully funded four-year PhD studentships. This means you do not need to apply for additional funding to be considered. However, due to the competition for the limited MRC iCASE funding you are advised to also select on your application consideration for university funding competition. This ensures that you are considered for other funding should you not receive MRC iCASE funding. The selection of consideration for other funding does not impact on your department application or consideration for MRC iCASE funding.
Contact us
Be sure to contact relevant supervisors using the list of projects below ahead of applying via the online prospectus.
